Acetabular Fixation is performed upon acetabular fractures that are breakages in the socket portion of the ball-and-socket hip joint. Acetabular fractures are not common and they occur much less frequently than fractures of the upper femur or femoral head.
The surgery aims to first reposition the displaced bone fragments into their normal alignment. Then, metal plates and screws are attached to the outer surfaces of the bone, so it can hold the fragments together while they heal. The success rate for the surgery varies between 64-76%. The cost of the treatment lies around US $3,300 in India.
