ASD Closure is a procedure carried out to repair atrial septal defects, i.e. a hole in the wall between the two upper chambers of the heart. It is a condition present at birth. ASDs can be closed surgically by simply sewing them closed or, by patching them up with the patient’s own tissue or synthetic material, in case of larger ASDs.
It’s not known why ASDs occur; however, some congenital heart defects appear to run in families and sometimes occur with other genetic problems, such as Down syndrome.
Surgical repair of an ASD is a safe and effective operation with little to no complications and a success rate of over 98 per cent. Current approaches focus heavily on less invasive surgical techniques in an effort to reduce the trauma of surgery.
The cost of ASD Closure surgery in India ranges from USD 80 to USD 107. The procedure can vary from relatively simple operations to more complex procedures depending on the location, size, and characteristics of the ASD. However, the total duration typically ranges from 2 to 3 hours.
