A Coronary Angioplasty is a procedure carried out to widen blocked or narrowed arteries and restore normal blood flow to your heart muscle.
It is not major surgery and just involves threading a catheter through a small puncture in the leg or arm artery towards the heart. The blocked artery is opened by inflating a tiny balloon in it.
Coronary Angioplasty does carry a risk of complications, and it can occur during or after the procedure; however, the risk is quite small. It’s common to have bleeding or bruising under the skin where the catheter was put in.
Although Angioplasty takes one to two hours, you will need to stay in the hospital overnight. You may even need to stay in the hospital longer, in some cases.
Angioplasty has been successful for well over 90 per cent of patients. The cost of the procedure in India ranges from USD 1,596 to USD 2,128.
