Arthrotomy is a surgical exploration aimed towards a joint including inspection of the cartilage, intra-articular structures, joint capsule, and ligaments. The procedure deepens incision through sub-cut and deep fasciae followed by an exposure of the quadriceps tendon and then retracting the patella laterally for a better view. The closure of the opening is done in layers. The success rate of the treatment remains between 72-84%. In addition, a few possible risks after Arthrotomy may include infection, wound dehiscence, bleeding, blood clot, deep vein thrombosis, postoperative shock, allergy to anesthesia, etc.
