Retinoblastoma (RB) Treatment

Retinoblastoma is a cancer of eye that occurs in the retina. The cancer mostly occurs in children. Specialists may perform an Electroretinogram for measuring the electrical activity of the retina. When a child is diagnosed with retinoblastoma, an MRI of the eyes, eye sockets, and the brain is performed for confirming the diagnosis. Depending on the severity, an experienced ophthalmologist may deal with treat Retinoblastoma through plaque radiotherapy or chemotherapy. For an aggressive Retinoblastoma, the treatment may require laser coagulation and enucleation of the eye. An experienced ophthalmologist should be preferred for dealing with Retinoblastoma. Diagnostic tests such as an Ultrasound, CT or CAT scan, MRI and CT scan of the brain are performed to confirm the condition. The success rate for the treatment remains around 95-97%.
