Angioplasty and Stent Placement is a procedure that opens narrowed or blocked blood vessels using a tiny balloon catheter to improve blood flow to your heart. The stent is a small, metal mesh tube that is often placed during or immediately after the angioplasty. A drug-eluting stent has medicine embedded in it that helps prevent the artery from closing in the long term.
Although the procedure is a less invasive way to open clogged arteries, it still carries some risks, including blood clots, bleeding where the catheter was inserted, and re-narrowing of the artery.
The cost of an Angioplasty procedure starts from around USD 3,458 in India. The duration of the procedure varies, but it takes between 30 and 60 minutes in most cases. You may have to remain at the hospital overnight while your heart is monitored, and your medications are adjusted. But, you should be able to get back to your normal routine one week after the angioplasty.
Angioplasty and stent replacement procedure has a success rate of over 90 per cent.
