IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) is an artificial insemination procedure for treating infertility. During the procedure a speculum is inserted into the vagina and the specialist attaches a vial containing a sample of healthy sperm to the end of a long, thin, flexible tube (catheter). They insert the catheter into vagina through the cervical opening and into uterus. They push the sperm sample through the tube into uterus and remove the catheter. A pregnancy test is required after 2 weeks. If the patient doesn’t get pregnant, they can try IUI again a couple of times before moving on to other fertility treatments. Experienced IVF specialists some gynaecologists trained in the method perform the procedure.
