Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI) is a preferred procedure for treating angle-closure glaucoma caused by relative or an absolute pupillary block. LPI eliminates pupillary block by allowing the aqueous to pass directly from the posterior chamber into the anterior chamber while bypassing the pupil. During the procedure, the eye is anesthetized, followed by the patient’s set up in front of the laser which looks like a typical examination microscope. Then, a contact lens is temporarily placed on the eye and the laser beam is aimed, and multiple laser shots are placed into the iris. The right specialist to consult for the LPI is an Ophthalmologist. The success rate for the treatment remains around 72-92%.
