Arytenoidectomy is an irreversible surgical technique in which the laryngeal inlet is widened in its transverse axis to make a larger airway for respiration. The procedure is basically a surgical excision of an arytenoid cartilage. The treatment is performed under general anesthesia with the use of CO2 laser. The specialist places a tube in the throat to facilitate the flow of air in lungs performed with the help of a 5.0 laser-safe endotracheal tube. A highly experienced ENT surgeon must be consulted for Arytenoidectomy. The success rate of the treatment remains around 95%. A few possible risks or side effects post-treatment include Granuloma formation in the surgical site, vocal deterioration, scar retraction, cricoid cartilage chondritis are some possible complications.
